Inside my Makeup Bag!

I am a fan of quite a few beauty bloggers, and recently I’ve read lots of blog posts showcasing a number of Autumn inspired makeup looks. I loved reading them and it got me thinking about the makeup that I use myself. That is the inspiration behind this post! I thought it might be fun to give you a small glimpse of what’s inside my makeup bag. I say small because I’ve acquired a few makeup items over the years, but in the interests of time, I’ll keep it simple and show you just some of my favourite pieces.

I really feel like having the right foundation is key to a make up look. I’d been struggling to find the right one for a while, and then along came Rimmel Match Perfection.

I had seen this foundation pop up on a lot of websites and in videos, where it had received some great reviews and so I decided to give it a go. Thinking about it now, I couldn’t tell you how long ago that was, but I can say that I can rarely remember an occasion where I have used anything other than this.

I use the shade 010 Light Porcelain and the colour match is just right for my skin. There are so many different shades available to match a variety of skin tones, so if this one isn’t right for you, pop into your local drugstore and see if you can find one! The coverage is incredible, even during breakout, it lasts so well and feels really lovely on my skin! I love how easy it is to apply too – and the pump is a huge helping hand in doing this quickly, particularly on those days when I’m restrained by time. I mostly find myself applying it with my fingers, for this reason! Just one pump and voila! In this case, its true that a little really does go a long way.

Its also SPF 20, which is a great thing to have, even on the days when sun may be lacking! Its such a great base and I just love using it!

I’ve tried concealers before, in many different forms, but for me, nothing quite compares to a liquid concealer. In particular, Collection Lasting Perfection.

I’m using the shade, number 1, Fair.  Without a doubt, this is my go-to concealer. On a bad skin day, this stuff is a godsend! The coverage is just incredible and Its really easy to apply – I can simply dab any redness or blemishes with this, and it makes them pretty much invisible. After application, I blend it into my skin using the Real Techniques complexion sponge, which is one of the best things ever!

This is my current favourite concealer and I haven’t found anything else quite like it as yet. It works so well with my Rimmel foundation and the combination of the two really makes my finished makeup look flawless!

I use the Rimmel Stay Matte Powder in number 1, Transparent. It is so light, and applies so smoothly with my Real Techniques Powder Brush. It looks natural on my skin tone, which helps to cover all blemishes and redness. Plus, it lasts all day. It just sets my base make up so well.

Whats also great about this is that it is great for any skin type, so there’s nothing stopping you from giving it a go if you want to!

Eyebrow gel

I really wanted to start using a brow product, because mine felt so boring! Pencils and powders seem quite popular, but I didn’t feel like they would give me the look I wanted, and the colour needed to be just right. I stumbled across the Rimmel Brow This Way eyebrow gel, and given the previous success with the liquid concealer, I just knew I had to give it a try.

I use the shade Dark Brown, which really works well with the colour of my hair. Like the foundation there are lots of shades suitable for different hair colours. The brush is really soft, which makes the liquid super easy to apply. It gives great results too – my eyebrows are left looking really defined, and I am left feeling confident! The gel is really light, dries quickly and lasts really well. If like me, you find a pencil or powder doesn’t give you the right look, or if you just want to try something different, I would really recommend this!

Eyeshadow Palette

I don’t know why, but there’s something about eyeshadow that just makes me feel so confident. It adds a little something extra to an otherwise everyday make up look and I love experimenting with different palettes and shades.

Over time, I’ve tried a few different brands, both high end and drugstore. But I have to say that this drugstore one is one of my favourites. This is the Makeup Revolution Palette, which I came across in my local Superdrug. It was actually the first eyeshadow palette I bought. Having never really used eyeshadow before, I didn’t know what to expect of it, but I can say with absolute certainty that its one of the loveliest palettes I’ve ever used.

From the moment I started using it, I fell in love with it. The colours are just lovely and I adore wearing them. I’ve pretty much worn the palette all year round, there’s such a variety in there that they are perfect for any weather. My favourites are the glittery shades as I love a bit of sparkle. I find myself combining some of the glittery brown shades especially. Although, more recently, I have discovered the more orangey tones within the palette, and I am reaching for them more and more now that its Autumn. I love wearing it with a hint of a matte shades, but equally they each work well on their own too!

If that wasn’t enough, the shadows are all so easy to apply, super pigmented and really long lasting. I apply them with my Real Techniques Eyeshadow brush from the Eyes Starter Kit, which works really well.

I’ve also seen a lot of people say its a great alternative for the Urban Decay Naked 3 palette, so if you are a fan of that one then I would really recommend giving this a go! I just can’t sing praises for this palette enough, I go back to it again and again, and I think its definitely worth a repurchase!

For a long time, I’ve been super faithful to my Benefit Rockateur blush. I still use and love this product, but after running out of it I just fancied something different, and decided to explore some drugstore brands. I settled on  (again it seems) on Rimmel Lasting Finish Mono Blush.

I purchased the shade 50 Live Pink. Its so light and is a lovely shade. At first glance I was excited
to use it. It is quite a bright shade, and sometimes I’ve found it a little too bright for my skin tone. This hasn’t put me off the product itself, because I have found I can tone it down a little and it works really well. I love its formula and it has a really soft texture. It applies smoothly with my Real Techniques Blush Brush and lasts really well. It even has a hint of a shimmer, which I love! Also, despite the size of the product, there is so much of it – I’ve used this pretty much daily since I bought it and I’m not yet running low! I love the finish too, it just looks great!

I picked up the Maybelline Lash Sensational mascara as an experiment, after hearing lots of positive reviews on it.

As the name suggests, this mascara is indeed sensational! The applicator has different length bristles which really capture every lash. Unlike a lot that I’ve tried, I find one layer of mascara is the perfect amount for my lashes to feel totally full and defined. If I curl my eyelashes before applying, I feel so glam and ready to go! They look so long and volumised. Plus it lasts really well throughout the day, I love it!

My favourite lip products to use are Tanya Burr lipsticks. The ones that I use the most actually aren’t available to purchase anymore as I was gifted them from last year’s Christmas range, but if these products sound like something you want to try, then do check out her other glosses here.

These are Berry Pavlova and Candy Cane. The shades are similar – candy cane is the lighter of the two, but still I love using them both. Naturally my lips are quite dark, so these shades suit my lip colour really well. They apply really easy, and create a lovely smooth, glossy look. And on top of all that, they smell like strawberries – a little extra something that I love about them! They’re so great for adding a bit of glam to a makeup look, or an outfit. I often take them with me to top up throughout the day, but I find I don’t always have to, because it lasts really well!

So far, I’ve only tried these shades from Tanya’s collection, but would love to try a few more. For a long time, I’ve wanted to try a liquid lipstick that dries matte. She has recently released a matte lipstick, which I am super excited to try. I would also love to hear any lip recommendations you may have, so please let me know in the comments below.

Setting Spray

These days, we’re generally out of the house for long periods of time, and so we hope and pray that our makeup will last for the duration. All too often, I had that sinking feeling when looking in the mirror after a long day – my makeup would be very tired, and slowly melting away. On my usual scout of the make up counters on a day out shopping, I discovered there was something that would help.

This is the #Insta Fix and Go setting spray and its honestly one of the best inventions. Its such a light spray and so convenient – simply spritz this on your face and go! You only need to use a small amount, and its so effective. My skin feels hydrated all day, and makeup stays put (no more melting)! It can be used as a primer too, but I’ve only really used it after applying all of my makeup. The size of the bottle is perfect to fit in your handbag, so you can take it with you and top up throughout the day. However, I’m finding that I don’t really need to do that. Its just a lovely spray and now, I don’t have to worry about tired, melting makeup. This spray has it covered!

That’s just some of the makeup that I use. I would love to hear your thoughts about any of the products I have mentioned. Also, I’d love to know what’s in your own makeup bag – if there are any products that you love and think I should try, do let me know, I’d be excited to have a go with more!

I loveeeed this post Ceelavie! I think there is something so exciting about having a nosey into someone’s makeup bag, haha 🙂 . The Rimmel Match perfection is such a throw back! I used to swear by this foundation when I started wearing makeup. Rimmel is one of the only brands that make foundation pale enough for my Caspar the ghost complexion! It was my all time fave but as my acne started getting bad I switched it up and starting buying my foundation from Homebase, haha :’D. I switched to the heavy duty Rimmel Stay Matte Foundation and even though my skin is much better now I still love it. I find such satisfaction in a good full coverage foundation, haha 🙂 . I totally agree with you on the Tanya Burr lip gloss choice. I went of lip gloss for a good few years when I started getting into makeup and beauty blogging so I haven’t tried many that are out there at the min but I the Tanya Burr ones are the perfect combination of pigmentation and non-stickiness in my opinion! I have a few from her last couple of advent calendar and Afternoon Tea and I Found Nemo 😀 . Xx

I haven’t used any mascara from Maybelline in a long time for the fact it normally does nothing for my eyelashes. I already have no eyelashes to begin with 😛 Have you tried Physicians Formula Jumbo Lash mascara? It works wonders for me 🙂 First time hearing about Rimmel having a setting spray.

I absolutely love this post! I use Real Technique brushes, they are amazing. My favourite product at the moment is Fenty beauty highlighter in colour trophy wife. I definitely recommend it, it’s really pigmented. 💖

Rimmel for the win! I love this brand and think it’s such a good value for the money. I use most of the products you mentioned and they are just so good! Might have to try Tanya’s lipsticks because they look gorgeous.

Such a great post! I do find that some of the Make-up Revolution palettes can be a lot better quality at times than some of the higher brands. I’m awful when it comes to setting spray I forget a lot of the time and then wonder why my make-up isn’t looking as good as when I first applied it. x
